The exhibition of Sari Sariola’s graphic novel Tiedän olevani ylipainoinen (I know I’m overweight) toured different comic festivals in Finland all through 2022 to 2023.

Sari Sariola is overweight, and she knows it without the whole world having to remind her at every turn. In this book, she uses realism and fantasy to tell what it’s like to carry the “fat bacteria”, which causes people to dodge her on the street and doctors to stop doing their jobs. Without regret, she talks about her life as part of this invisible group of people, and what kind of obstacle course life is sometimes when human dignity is measured by body mass index.

The empowering comic opens a window to a world where people can be met as people, regardless of their body shape.

The exhibitions showed different parts of the comic from the early stages to a finished product.
